North Cornwall

Lucas and Amy

a Bigtopmania family circus-theme wedding on a wonderful glamping site near the beaches

Lucas and Amy were married back in 2017 in a beautifully traditional style in Morwenstow North Cornwall followed by a fun-filled festival and circus theme full weekend wedding reception nearby at Koa Tree Camp (@koatreecamps).

A keen eye might notice that Lucas is one of the Bigtopmania family and Amy can also be found teaching trapeze to children at all the festivals where we are lucky enough to be performing. Pulling out all the stops and chasing a few favours, this was a full-on Bigtopmania festival wedding celebration and one of the first of the next generation out of our group of friends.

What better opportunity to put up a few tents and experiment with some new decor than your own wedding breakfast!

We were tempted to try and squeeze it all into one bigger tent but as things developed, we opted for having 2 marquees in 2 quite different styles as well as a front of house Prosecco tent.

The concept was that there was a fun party tent connected to a slightly more formal dining tent. We were also lucky that the venue had a wonderfully stocked party room, kitchen, lots of showers and loos as well as heaps of outdoor party space, fire pit, camping space and ready-to-go camping cabins and geo-domes. There's even onsite massage, a yurt bar, a shop and surf lessons! Its an eco-focused, low impact nature loving venue. We wanted a sustainable wedding packed with festival atmosphere after all!

With guests staying for the weekend, we had 2 full evening meals to consider too and that meant some very nice food and huge group meals.

We didn't have a service team and relied on a gang of groomsmen to deliver the food. This meant that clearing the tables was a DIY effort and we really didn't want the pressure of getting the tables cleared and away before we could move on with the partying. In retrospect and as a handy hint; given the huge amount of morning-after tidying perhaps it would have been better to get some professional waiters in!

In the build up to the wedding Lucas was busy building a pallet bar which isn't photographed here but is still in storage waiting for the perfect moment to strike and take the bar hire world by storm!

We also built some new Wagon Wheel chandeliers for holding our vintage LED lighting around the wooden king poles of our petal pole marquee which are now in regular use at other weddings.

Highlights on the day included a swing dance performance and lesson by "The Mud Flappers", a Hokey Cokey first dance (!!) , a circus performance from a few of our closest friends and some fantastic into the night DJing by more of our nearest and dearest. Pick your venue well so that you don't have to turn the music of at 11pm if you don't need to!

The bar was self-run with various people taking turns to man it and create wonderful cocktails.

Furniture was hired from South West Event Hire.

The BigTopMania Real Wedding Case Study photography was beautifully captured by Michael Wells (@michaelwellsphoto) from Croyde in North Devon, who we recommend 1000% as a brilliant wedding photographer and a very friendly chap.
